Future Farmer Mission Brief

As a Multimedia Designer at Earth Rangers, I was responsible for the creation of several ‘Mission Briefs’ for members; these illustrated documents outlined an environmental initiative that children could take at home. This particular Mission was was about the differences between degenerative and regenerative farming practices, and how members could implement regenerative farming practices in their home gardens and planters. This project also included three companion planting guides.

PROCESS

The creative direction for this project drew inspiration from farming simulation games and pixel art. Typically, each Mission Brief has its own visual identity, so there is room to play around with colours, themes, and typefaces, while also remaining true to the overall look and feel of the Earth Rangers brand. Often times, there is also a ‘character’ created to guide the reader through the document, and in this case it was a farmer robot that would serve as a nod to the ‘futuristic’ element of the content. There was a considerable amount of information that needed to be conveyed throughout both the main brief as well as the supplemental planting guides, and the design had to support the clear communication of all these details while remaining exciting to engage with.

This project was completed using Adobe Illustrator

DESIGN HIGHLIGHTS

Meet Evvie! Using a combination of existing stock illustrations, I built this approachable robot farmer character that guides the reader through the brief.

I created a number of custom pixel art images to be used throughout the four documents that made up this Mission.

This project also required creating a number of additional assets that were used on the Earth Ranger website and app.

The Future Farmer Mission appears in the Earth Rangers App alongside several other missions that were designed by me.
